Tokenomics

In short Tokenomics is the economic design of a token: how much supply exists, who holds it, how new tokens enter circulation, and what drives demand.

Tokenomics, short for token economics, describes the rules that govern a token's supply and distribution. It covers the total and maximum supply, how tokens were split between the team, investors, the community, and liquidity, how quickly locked portions reach the market, and whether anything removes tokens or creates new ones over time.

Mechanically, most of these rules live in the token contract and in separate vesting or staking contracts. A fixed-supply token mints everything at launch, while an inflationary one issues new tokens as rewards for staking, mining, or liquidity provision. Some tokens add buy and sell taxes, burns, or reflections that redistribute fees to holders. The schedule that releases team and investor allocations over months or years is often the single most important part, because it sets how much new selling pressure is coming.

For a holder, tokenomics explains a lot of price behavior that the chart alone does not. A token with a small circulating supply and a large fully diluted valuation can look cheap while most of its supply still waits to be released. On small launches, a single wallet holding a quarter of supply can move the price at will, no matter how good the project sounds.

Check the numbers on-chain rather than trusting a pie chart on a website. Compare circulating supply against total and max supply, look at the top holders in a block explorer, and find out when vesting cliffs end. Watch for owner-controlled mint functions, adjustable taxes, and large allocations labeled marketing or ecosystem that sit in wallets the team controls.
