Strategy shareholders backed a plan to accrue dividends daily on four preferred stocks, with the first payments on STRC due in November. The change arrives as the company buys back preferred shares, pauses Bitcoin purchases and waits for an MSCI index list.
Shareholders clear the daily dividend amendment
Strategy shareholders have approved amendments that let the company's four preferred stocks, STRF, STRC, STRK and STRD, accrue dividends every day. Decrypt reported that chairman Michael Saylor announced the result on Wednesday, with preliminary figures showing 99.3% of votes cast in favor at a special meeting of stockholders.
Bitcoin Magazine traced the proposal to September 25, when Strategy asked holders to attend the October 28 meeting. According to Cointelegraph, the annual dividend rates stay the same. Only the timing changes, with accrual covering weekends and holidays as well as business days.
How the daily record date works
Decrypt explained the mechanics. Every calendar day becomes a record date, and payment follows on the next business day. For STRC, the yearly count of record dates rises from 24 to 365.
Because U.S. markets close at weekends, dividends with weekend record dates are grouped in practice. Strategy gave an example in which record dates of Friday, November 6, Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8 are all treated as a Friday record date and paid together on Monday, November 9. Under that example, a buyer of STRC on the Friday gets no part of the three payouts, whereas a seller on that day keeps all three.
Decrypt also relayed a company caveat that the handling may vary for shares traded away from Nasdaq or held at certain brokers.
Key dates and figures
The timetable and the numbers behind the approval, as reported by the outlets, are below.
- STRC: first record date November 1 and first payment November 2, according to Decrypt.
- STRF, STRK and STRD: first record date January 1 and first payment January 4, 2027.
- Annual dividend rates on the four securities range from 8% to 12%, with STRC variable and currently at 12%, per Cointelegraph.
- Holdings: 848,517 BTC with a total cost of $64.02 billion, or $75,446 per coin on average, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
- Cash reserve: $4.83 billion, also per Bitcoin Magazine.
Where the outlets' accounts line up and where they differ
The core facts match across Cointelegraph, Decrypt and Bitcoin Magazine: the 99.3% approval, the four securities and the November and January start dates. The framing differs. Cointelegraph describes payments on every business day, while Decrypt and Bitcoin Magazine stress that accrual is daily and cash arrives on the next business day.
The outlets also differ on what still has to happen. Cointelegraph says Strategy expects daily payments on STRC to begin on November 2. Decrypt says the change still requires Strategy to file revised terms covering every one of the stocks. Bitcoin Magazine adds that board action is the last step and that the certified vote count is due in a later company filing.
On the STRC rate, Cointelegraph gives 12% as the current level. Bitcoin Magazine cites 11.50% for the month ended June 30, 2026, taken from Strategy's quarterly report. These figures refer to different periods and are not necessarily in conflict.
The Defiant published a piece on what common and preferred holders can claim. Based on its headline and summary, unpaid STRC dividends build up and limit what can be paid to common shareholders, while the preferred status does not give holders collateral rights over Strategy's bitcoin.
Pressure on STRC and the bitcoin balance sheet
Bitcoin Magazine described STRC as a vehicle for raising money through preferred stock, aiming at a stable $100 price with a variable yield, and then using the proceeds to buy bitcoin. Daily accrual is meant to support that price target. Strategy told shareholders that it would shorten the lag between earning dividends and reinvesting them.
The price is currently just under that target. Decrypt, citing Yahoo Finance, said STRC traded at $99.86 on Wednesday against its $100 par value. Decrypt reported that Strategy halted its Bitcoin purchases last week, the first such pause since mid-September, and put $204.9 million into repurchasing STRC.
Bitcoin Magazine reported that Strategy bought less Bitcoin this year and disposed of some of its holdings to cover repurchases, interest and dividends on its preferred stock. Its common stock is down near 50% over the past year. Bitcoin itself trades at $80,099 on CoinGecko, down 4.8% over 30 days and well below its all-time high of $126,080 set on October 6, 2025. That price remains above Strategy's reported average cost of $75,446.
Strive already pays daily, and MSCI looms
Cointelegraph noted that Strive, another company holding Bitcoin in its treasury, began paying dividends on a daily basis for its SATA preferred shares in June. Bitcoin Magazine put the start at June 16. Strive has since closed a $630 million offering of a second security, SATS, selling 7 million shares at $90 each on October 20. SATS carries a fixed 15% annual rate, with daily payments scheduled from November 9, subject to declaration.
Strive has not said how much of the proceeds will go to Bitcoin, according to Cointelegraph. It ranks fourth among corporate holders with 43,000 BTC, per BitcoinTreasuries.net.
Decrypt flagged a separate risk for Strategy. MSCI finalized a rule this month under which firms that hold mostly one asset on their balance sheets cannot qualify for its widely tracked equity indexes. The index provider plans to release the names of the companies affected on November 11.
What to watch next
The first test is procedural. Readers can check for board approval and the amended filings that Decrypt and Bitcoin Magazine say must come before the November 1 record date for STRC.
The second is market behavior. Whether STRC returns to its $100 par value after daily accrual begins is an open question, as is whether Strategy resumes Bitcoin purchases or keeps funding buybacks. MSCI's November 11 list will show whether index eligibility becomes a further factor for the company.

FAQ
When will Strategy's daily preferred dividends start?
STRC is expected to move first, with a record date of November 1 and payment on November 2. STRF, STRK and STRD follow with a January 1 record date and payment on January 4, 2027. The timing depends on board action and filings of amended terms.
Does daily accrual change the dividend rates?
No. Cointelegraph reported that annual dividend rates are unchanged, and Bitcoin Magazine said scheduled rates and total dividend obligations stay the same. The rates range from 8% to 12%, with STRC variable and currently at 12%.
How are weekend dividends paid?
Weekend and holiday record dates are treated as falling on the previous business day. Dividends for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday would be paid together on the following Monday, according to the example Strategy gave.
