On March 6, 1981, the third day of the trial against Grabowski, who was accused of murdering her daughter Anna, Marianne Bachmeier smuggled a Beretta pistol into the courtroom of the Lübeck Regional Court. She aimed the gun at Grabowski’s back and fired a total of eight times. Six of the shots were fatal, killing the 35-year-old Grabowski instantly. Bachmeier then allowed himself to be arrested without resistance.
