Heart Detention Reports Put HEX Liquidity and Finnish Tax Case in Focus
By Coinvote

Reports of Richard Heart’s detention in Istanbul have brought renewed attention to the HEX founder’s Finnish tax case and the token’s trading liquidity. Accounts describe a coordinated police operation, while differing loss figures and limited pool liquidity complicate the market picture.
Turkish reports describe an operation in Beşiktaş
Richard Heart, the founder of HEX, was reportedly detained in Istanbul following an operation involving Turkish police and intelligence officers. Decrypt reported, citing Daily Sabah’s account of Turkish news agency IHA’s reporting, that Heart and his wife were detained on Wednesday morning after officers monitored their address in Beşiktaş. Heart’s legal name is Richard James Schueler.
The Block’s account carried an important qualification: police had not confirmed the detention. Decrypt also said it was not immediately clear whether Finland had requested his extradition from Turkey. Those distinctions separate the reported operation from the legal process that could follow, including any decision about transferring Heart to Finnish authorities.
Seizure accounts overlap but differ in detail
Protos reported, citing Turkish outlet Haberler, that officers seized $4 million in cash, 64 luxury watches, firearms, computers and cryptocurrency mining equipment. The Block also relayed the cash and watch figures from Turkish reporting. Protos attributed a more detailed weapons inventory to Euronews, including three handguns, four rifles and 1,360 rounds of ammunition.
Decrypt’s account described phones, laptops, graphics cards, drones, gold bracelets, firearms and cash in multiple currencies without giving the same cash or watch totals. The accounts therefore overlap on the broad categories of property reportedly seized, but they do not present identical inventories. Their reliance on Turkish reporting also matters: repetition across crypto outlets is not equivalent to separate official confirmation.
The Finnish notice is separate from the dismissed SEC case
According to Decrypt, Interpol issued the Red Notice in 2024 at Finland’s request, and it lists aggravated tax fraud as the charge. A Red Notice asks authorities to locate someone and provisionally arrest them while extradition or related proceedings are considered. It is not an international arrest warrant, a distinction that matters when interpreting headlines about the operation.
Decrypt noted that Daily Sabah characterised the notice as concerning high-value cryptocurrency fraud, while Protos relayed Haberler’s allegations of an international fraud network based in Istanbul. Those descriptions should not be treated as interchangeable with the charge listed in the notice. Decrypt also reported that Finnish authorities had sought Heart in connection with an alleged assault.
The American securities litigation followed a different track. Decrypt reported that the SEC’s 2023 complaint alleged unregistered offerings raising more than $1 billion and diversion of at least $12 million into luxury purchases. According to Decrypt, the court found it lacked jurisdiction and dismissed the case in February 2025; the SEC then let the April deadline pass without amending its complaint. That outcome does not resolve the separate Finnish allegations.
HEX losses differ across reports, while liquidity adds another risk
Protos reported that HEX fell almost 45% following the arrest news. The Defiant’s later report described a 31% decline in Ethereum-based HEX after detention reports. The accounts do not identify matching measurement periods or trading venues, so the figures cannot establish either a consistent decline or a subsequent recovery.
The Defiant also highlighted a Uniswap pool whose trading activity was substantial relative to its available liquidity. That moves the analysis beyond the headline token decline: turnover describes transactions over a period, while liquidity concerns the assets available within the pool. High turnover does not itself establish that sellers can execute without moving the price.
- The Defiant reported about $703,000 in daily HEX trading through the Uniswap pool.
- The same pool held just $354,000 in liquidity, which The Defiant identified as adding execution risk for sellers.
Ethereum’s broader activity does not measure HEX exit capacity
DefiLlama places Ethereum’s DeFi total value locked at $49.40 billion. That network-wide measure gives a sense of the broader financial ecosystem, but it is not liquidity available to a particular HEX trade. Assets committed elsewhere cannot be assumed to support execution in the Uniswap pool highlighted by The Defiant.
Coinvote’s Ethereum project listings track 2,925 projects, illustrating the breadth of listings rather than the depth of any individual market. For token teams and traders, the useful distinction is between discovery, network activity and executable liquidity. None of those measures can substitute automatically for another, and a founder-related headline does not establish conditions across unrelated Ethereum projects.
Official legal steps and pool conditions remain the next checkpoints
The legal developments to watch are an official account of the detention, clarification of the applicable proceedings and any announcement about extradition. Those would help distinguish the Finnish tax matter from the broader allegations described in Turkish reporting. Any confirmed seizure inventory would also allow a firmer comparison with the differing accounts already published.
For HEX trading, the relevant checks are the particular pool, its available liquidity and the execution price quoted for a transaction. Matching the venue and measurement period would also make subsequent percentage moves more meaningful. The reported founder detention and the pool’s limited liquidity are related parts of the news coverage, but neither alone establishes how the other will develop.

FAQ
Was Richard Heart’s detention officially confirmed?
Decrypt and Protos relayed reports of his detention from Turkish media. The Block explicitly said police had not confirmed it, and Decrypt said Finland’s extradition-request status was unclear.
Why do reports give different HEX declines?
Protos reported a fall of almost 45%, while The Defiant described a 31% decline in Ethereum-based HEX. Without matching measurement periods and venues, those figures do not establish a recovery or a single comparable move.
Did the dismissal of the SEC case settle the Finnish matter?
No. Decrypt reported that the SEC complaint was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction, while the Finnish-requested Interpol notice concerns aggravated tax fraud.
